Post Hawfinches at Scone Palace

Hi Guys n Gals

Last Sunday ( 8th ) i took a trip up to Scone palace to catch a glimpse of the Hawfinches, and boy was i not disappointed, all together seen 6 individuals, thats the first time i have ever seen these birds and i must say i was quite fascinated by the size of the beak compared to other finches.

I did get a picture but the lens did not reach far enough as most of my viewing was through a scope. I will be going back up soon to see them again and hopefully get a few memorable shots.

For anyone that is interested, when you get into the grounds, head for the main archeway to the main building, in the tall trees is where they are and also sometimes under the Yew trees.

Anyone wanting an easy tick and a change of face through the scope then i would recommend it.

Location :- NO118268 - Click here to see

regards

I was at Scone last Friday (28th May) and the Hawfinches are still there, although not having a good year. Out of six or seven known nests, only one is still viable - the others having been predated by Squirrel/Jackdaw/Jay...

There is a population of Red Squirrel in the same area.

Regards,

-Mark
