Hi folks I tried a new tactic today and parked the car at vane farm and got the bus to Kinross , this bus only runs on a Wednesday, leaves Vane Farm a 1100 and a Sunday, not sure of time bus departs on Sunday.
I then walked the loch trail taking about 3 ½ hours there were quite a few birds on the north bank of the loch but there is a bit between Burleigh sands and Leven mouth where there was very little activity. Had to wait until I was approaching the Leven mouth hide, before I was rewarded with 3 red legged partridge and white tailed eagles sitting out on the ice.
Most of the loch was iced over with some open water areas which showed quite a lot of goosander, golden eye, tufted duck, whooper swans, mute swans cormorants, mallard, greylag and pink footed geese, flocks of fieldfare and redwings
For fife birder please be aware that the SNH hide one near Kinross and the one at Burleigh sands have been removed due to damage caused by the severe cold weather. A bit of a blow as I had no where comfortable to partake of packed lunch, albeit there are plenty of seat around the loch
All in all a good day and tested the new knee which held up well. Did have daughter in law on standby in case I had any problems
