Subject: Morton Lochs
Posted: Fri 23 Jul, 2010 07:45 (GMT 0)

I've not been out birdwatching for some months, - but managed out to Morton Lochs yesterday. I must say it was great to see the pig farm gone, taking with it the predonderance of crows. I know crows are birds too and have a right to a life, - but next door to a nature reserve?

I spotted kestral, Curlew, Lapwing and Yellowhammer on the access road, and a Roe deer in the fields, - Jay, Mallard, Little Grebe, Blackbird, Robin and Sedge Warbler at the small loch, - Blue tit, Great tit, Chaffinch and Wren on the paths, Mute swan, Moorhen, Swallow, Buzzard Woodpigeon, Sedge Warbler, Willow warbler, heron, & Tufted duck from the High (Fullerton) Hide, and also a pair (I think it was an adult and a Juvenile) of Common Sandpipers, which didn't appear in the hide log book.

Highlight of the day (and a first for me at this location) was a Kingfisher. best views ever! I was able to watch it for some 10 minutes or so, - flying from perch to perch, fishing, diving, - even hovering in full view at one point!

Not a bad tally for an hours walk?

regards, Bobby.
